How to Have Your Sh*t Together 100% of the Time

You can’t.

I know what you’re thinking…what a buzzkill. Why would I drag you to my blog just to tell you that you actually won’t ever have your shit together? There is some good news, here, so I encourage you to read on.

I recently had someone say to me, “Your life seems so perfect. I wish that I had it together like you.”

Umm, what?

Folks, I do not have my life together. At all. But honestly, who does? When is the last time you wished you were someone else? Have you ever wondered how everyone else seems to pull off marriage, parenting, life, etc without fault?

I’ve stressed so many times over being a better wife. A better mom. A better female. I’ve witnessed so many times people who seem to have it more together than I do. That one mom who seems to do everything just right with her kids and she has a husband who worships the ground she walks on. She does no wrong. She has the perfect job and her kids are always behaved and put together. She gets her kids teachers, coaches, and mentors homemade gifts for the holidays. She is superhuman. And I want to be just like her.

Plot twist: she’s the same woman who said she’s jealous of my life.

Imagine my surprise. Clearly she didn’t know I had just listened to my 2 year old scream at me the whole way to daycare because I gave her the wrong flavor of yogurt. She couldn’t see the never ending piles of laundry around my house (and was oblivious to the fact I was wearing a shirt I had dug out of the dirty laundry). She didn’t know I can’t recall the last time I felt rested or half way attractive. She wasn’t witness to my husband and I arguing over pointless crap the night before. She didn’t know certain life events had me feeling like a failure. To her I wasn’t any of these things…I was her inspiration. Wow.

So I guess what I’m saying is it’s ok that you don’t have it together. We are lying to ourselves to believe anyone does. Do me a favor: don’t sell yourself short. You’re doing so many admirable things and that’s what the outside world is seeing. So rock that unwashed hair and rule the world. You’re totally killing it to those of us looking in.

xo, Jess
