I Resolve to Make Resolutions for the New Year

With each New Year, you have those who make Resolutions and those who don’t. Now for all you Nay-Sayers, who proclaim you don’t need a “holiday, new year/day, etc” to make changes in your life…

Good.For.You.

I, however, need to set myself schedules and deadlines.  I need to keep myself on track.  So if waiting until the New Year to make some healthy changes to my life is what it takes, then so be it.  For example, just the other day I forgot to grab Arabella’s bottle and didn’t remember it until I was all the way in town.  Said bottle was sitting on the counter…where I had put it before I left the house.  I had to turn around to go back and get it. So if I cannot remember a bottle I JUST prepared, how am I going to make time to better my life? I’ll tell you how, I am resolving to make New Years Resolutions this year; quite simply because I need to.

Before you go thinking I went all crazy with my resolutions, let me tell you that is NOT the case.  I’m a firm believer in K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and that is exactly what I’ve done for my Resolutions.  I’ve set realistic, healthy, goals that I believe will better me, and my beautiful little family.

Ringing in 2015 with my family and a little sparkling cider

  1.  No More Fast Food. Oh man, this will be the hardest one of all for me.  Obviously I know how bad it is for me, and my family (that’s why I’m quitting) but seriously it’s so convenient! And I don’t care what you say, it tastes darn good too.  You know you have a bad habit when January 1st rolls around and your little family is preparing to head into town (around lunchtime) and you’re stopped dead in your tracks because you have no idea what you’ll eat for lunch.  In the past (a whole 7 days ago) we would have just grabbed something through the good ol’ drive-thru.  But not anymore, No Sir Ree Bob.  We found ourselves scouring the cupboards for something we would have to…wait for it….PREPARE (gasp!) We made it out just fine, but I can assure you we have gone grocery shopping and stocked up for future run-ins.
  2. Less “Screen Time.” If I could convince Natalie that this is actually for the best, that would be a miracle.  The T.V. comes on the instant she makes her way upstairs as soon as a hint of sunlight comes through her bedroom windows in the morning. And as if having the T.V. on isn’t enough, she then puts her iPod to her face.  I swear she’s trying to turn her brain to mush. I’ve threatened discussed with my husband the possibility of cancelling cable, but I think he likes it just as much as Natalie. (I wonder where she gets it from) I could really care less about television.  Sure, I have a couple of shows that I can’t live without am consumed with.  Thanks a lot for ruining my life, Son’s.   But I think I would get along just fine if I didn’t have cable. However, this is not to say I am innocent in all of this because I am a pretty heavy cell phone user.  I’ll be working on looking at my phone less in 2015.  Just let me scour Facebook real quick first…
  3. Blog More. So maybe this goes against everything I said in Number 2 but blogging is really my only “me” time. It’s hard to find the time, sometimes, to sit down and write, especially uninterrupted.  And although, I know that there will always be a million other things going on, I vow to try and make more time to catalog my thoughts (as hectic as they are.) I am really passionate about this blog and am hopeful that I’ll be able to turn it into something that others can relate to.

So there you have it…3 healthy, obtainable resolutions for 2015.  And maybe I will slip up on 1 or 2, or heck maybe all 3 at one point or another (maybe in a month from now) Who knows.  But what I do know is that life happens, hiccups happen, and all we can do is try our darnedest to make the most out of everyday.

Here’s to 2015…and making and breaking Resolutions.
xo, Jess
